Model Compatibility

Using Models Created in Previous Versions of @RISK

Most @RISK spreadsheet models created with previous versions of @RISK can be used in version 8 without problems. There are a few exceptions:

  • @RISK 4.5/4.0 simulation (.RSK) result files and @RISK 3.5 (.SIM) simulation result files cannot be opened in @RISK 8. Simulation result files created by @RISK 8.0 cannot be read by @RISK 4.5 or earlier.
  • The @RISK Library feature has been deprecated in version 8. The RiskLibrary property function will be ignored.
  • The @RISK for Project functionality is not available in version 8. Project scheduling models created with it cannot be used.

Using Models Created in Version 8 with Previous Versions of @RISK

Models that do not use new features of version 8 can be opened and simulated in previous version of @RISK.

As long as newer features have not been utilized in an @RISK 8.0 models, @RISK 5.x – 7.x can read @RISK 8.0 results (either in separate .RSK5 files or results stored directly in a spreadsheet).

Using @RISK XDK Models Written in Previous Versions of @RISK

The @RISK version 8 XDK library is quite different from the version 7 XDK. XDK models will need to be updated before they will run on version 8. These changes allow for better support of other languages besides VBA, as well as updates to support the new design of @RISK reports, graphs, preferences, and other new features of @RISK 8.

For more information see the XDK Automation Guide and in particular, the section 'Updating @RISK 6.x or 7.x Automation Code to Run in @RISK 8.x.'
